Richmond, BC

Location: Richmond is just south of Vancouver on islands formed by arms of the Fraser River. Vancouver International Airport occupies most of one of the islands.

Climate: Same as Vancouver, though slightly dryer.

Economy: Richmond was built on the rich delta of the Fraser River and has always been a combination: part bedroom community, agricultural community and fishing community. However, over the past few decades it has become increasingly populated with light and heavy manufacturing firms and warehousing operations, which share the ample supply of space with suburban shopping malls and commercial concerns. Vancouver International Airport alone accounts for more than 13,000 jobs.
